Another easy way is to ask neighbors about their plants, and help them divide the clumps when its time. By doing this, you develop a better understanding about any free plant given & the growth cycles that occur outside of the confines of the nursery, along with building a better rapport with your neighbors. I've been doing this for years, and more than half of the plants I had where free. Craigslist is also an option I use use when I need to get rid of some

I like how one tip is "Practice native gardening," then the next three steps, "tend to trees and shrubs," "apply mulch," and "beautify your lawn (sod)" pretty much say, screw native gardening.
