10 products with big markups
What an item really costs and what you end up paying for it can be very different. Here are several examples where that gap is substantial.
i have been a sales professional for over 15 years at a major furniture/mattress/appliance retailer. i would love to know where they are paying 20% commission. i am very successful at my job and have been recruited by several competitors throughout the years. never once was i offered that level of commission. the going rate is closer to 4% nationwide.
it is irresponsible for msn to present a site like mattressscam.com without first investigating the validity of it's claims. a lot of their info was correct. however, to assume that all sales people are "out to get you' is insulting and inaccurate. most of us are doing our job helping YOU get a better night's rest for a reasonable price. my confidence iin this source is reduced if not gone.
QUOTE: "GOLD, Is used for little more than jewelry"
ACTUALLY GOLD IS USED QUITE EXTENSIVELY IN THE ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY [those micro-chips are soldered together with tiny gold beads; hi-quality audio/video cables are plated with gold, etc]; IN THE DENTAL UNDUSTRY, AND IN THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY AS WELL, JUST TO NAME THREE INDUSTRIES WHICH UTILIZE THIS HEAVY, RELATIVELY INERT METAL.
Gold actually is becoming less and less used for jewelry, has anyone noticed that the jewelry stores are now showing more silver and other lower cost metals than ever. Gold is used in so many other things than jewelry today. But even with that the price is driven by a fear of losing money on other things such as stocks, and other investments, Gold has always been a trend, if I remember correctly back in the 80's Gold went from $400 to about $800 dollars and ounce, and then went back down to around $400 for a long time during the investment boom, but everyone got scared with the economy and felt that gold was a stable investment, which drove the price up to current level af around $1600.
It will be intersesting over the next 5 years or so to see what direction it goes.
