It's morons like these below posting crap that'll get MSNBC to remove commenting altogether. Thanks for ruining one of the last options to make our voices heard you bleeding idiots.
Having said that, don't bother with the lady telling you how to save $1000 on groceries. She's an idiot. You can save 3 times that amount by growing your own vegetables in your yard. If you don't have a yard, do it in boxes or planters. Not only will it save you money, gas and time, but you'll be eating far healthier than anything you can buy in a box, bag, bottle or tube.
It's proven fact a family of 4 can reduce their grocery bill by an average of $3000 if they grow their own produce. It's good exercise and it teaches personal responsibility and awareness of just how terrible processed foods are for your body.

There's a reason all the people pictured in this article are around 20 - this stuff is just so obvious.  Duh - don't they have parents who teach the basics in life?  Use credit cards without fees, pay credit cards off monthly to avoid charges, turn off stuff when you leave the room, turn down the heat/AC.  The fact that people think this is really new cutting-edge stuff is scary for our economy.  But the online car quotes they mention (truecar.com) - something that really can save thousands - is in a very limited number of cities.  So another silly article by MSN Money.

So far all of these "tips" are basically "don't be an idiot and waste money". I see nothing here that helps me save money as they are all common-sense things that I already do. Except the airline Visa card. My airline Visa pays for itself because it is for my preferred airline anyway, and we use our rewards for trips every year.

love the pic of the woman in high heels putting air in her tires.....   Nothing new or exciting in this article -- just plain common sense!

Recast your mortgage, alot of banks dont tell you about this but it can lower your monthly mortgage rate, and lower the interest paid back to the banks by thousands and its alot faster than refinancing. Its simply lowers your interest rate to todays low rates.

Almost nothing here pertains to me, unless the automatic thermostat tells me how much and when to put wood in the stove. The computer is unplugged when not in use and I think the landfills have enough mercury without adding more with the new bulbs, I would have to drive several miles to dispose of them so what is the savings.

Jarrett,
First of all, Investing is a major part of the engine that provides jobs for millions in this country.  It's called Capitalism and America has led the free world in a vastly improved standard of living by employing those principals.  The principles of investing and living frugally (as the article suggests), are the very reasons that give millions of people the ability to fill your socialistic hands with aid as well as JOBS.

Here is another money saving tip for you. Keep the quarters in your pocket and go to the nearest  tire shop and have one of thier guys put air in your tires. They wont charge you anything, its called customer service. Also, most gas stations have an air hose for thier customers to fill up tires and you dont need any quarters to put in the machine. Its usually just an air hose put out for customers, not a quarter operated machine.

I love how they tell you to ditch your land line. However, if you have DSL, then it is still required, and all the alternatives they list use the internet. So what they are actually saying is switch to cable. LOL

Well, Well, exchange your land line for a cell phone with data plan, and so many other items here are under suspect of being a form of advertising!--my land line is 23,43 with fees, and the black burry is 176 including taxes, so something wrong just on that.--they stand to get 150 Dollars more a month.

Haggle about prices in stores, will not be allowed much longer, since that causes major corruption, the same reason for cameras over check out lines and tool gates, to make sure friends do not get anything for free. I have seen several stores with signs about no haggling, so buying online with price copies taken by your cell phone will probably be forbidden and then using places like Amazon, since that is really a scam, that they and others make people shop by using black mail haggling--just wait and see it will soon be illegal.

The article was informative and interesting.  It seemed to me that it was geared more toward the affluent reader than somebody that really needs ways to save money.  I do think it makes sense to replace your land line on any budget, if you need long distance coverage.  Also, refinancing at these fantastic rates are worth looking into.  I would suggest really reading the fine print on all credit card inquiries.  What seems like a good deal could go very wrong. With one late payment, you could be looking at paying the whole balance at 21% or more.  It is really better to avoid credit cards, unless you have enough in savings to pay them off when needed, as they reserve the right to change most interest rates at any time, for their own reasons also.

Dan----Take a trip to the rest of the western world, and you will find capitalism here is good for one type only and that is rich people--the 0.05 %!

My 170 K 401 K has the same Dollar number-- now 158 K as it did 11 years ago (but less than half the buying power), and  you are right that created 2 jobs, one for the one who has my money (and thousands of other peoples money), and one for me, because I have to work to make up the value of 170 K 11 years ago, that now should have been at least 300 K to have just the same value--so the rich used my money to take the money value loss the last 11 years--but at least I do not have to pay taxes.--Same as this storey--bogus! And he had my money to ride on just about anything he wanted too in those 11 years, most have no idea!

So this is a group of rich people. Have any of you thought of how many jobs you have destroyed by all of your investing , Do you care about the people who have to BEG for money on the street corners. If all you can think about is how you can get richer. The poor don`t need hand outs, just a JOB. The price of fuel  is too high, and going higher. They say it will hit $4.25 a gallon very soon. Are you thinking what that will mean??  Less jobs, higher prices for food and clothing,  and MORE POOR ON THE STREETS. Well if you can live with that thought, you must be very happy.
